Our Word- 'Mystery'

Our word- 'mystery' comes from the Grimm tale 'The Golden Key'. In the story, a boy is gathering wood in a forest and finds a golden key. he dug away beneath the key and found a small chest. he finds a way to open the chest, but what's in the chest is kept from the reader. this is where the aspect of mystery comes from.

Some of the words that we associated with mystery were-

Complex

Murder

Whispering

Changes

Dark

Cold

Tumbleweed

These words helped me to add more depth to my movements when it came to working on Bio-Objects as I had a deeper understanding of the word, and how it could be brought to life.

bio-objects and inanimate sounds

bio-object work-

The video above is an early attempt at my Bio-Object piece, it was a good start but didnt have the fluidity that I was looking for. After recieving feedback, I attempted it lutiple times before arriving at something that I was happy with. The video below was between the video above and my final piece. I started to play with weight a lot more, as well as using different angles. I still wasnt exploring the full range of movements though, this was something I wanted to do for my final piece.

reflection

In this piece I wanted to explore life, and how it can be captured. The mysterious aspect comes from the empty frame. Is it empty for a reason? Was there a picture in there that's now gone? What happened in somebody's life to make it empty? I chose to use a frame because of the many ways that it can be interpreted and because of its versatility. In regards to representing life, I changed the weight of the frame to represent life being ‘easy’ and ‘difficult’. I also tried to use sharp movements, such as when the frame pushes back and pulls forwards and I move with it. The biological symbiosis between me and the object is strengthened because of the ideas surrounding life. Overall, I think the proper understanding of the term ‘Bio-Objects’ has aided me in amounts towards creating a proper symbiosis between me and the object. I think that performing it online is more difficult, because there is the notion that it can always be recorded again, which i think leads to a more relaxed persona when it comes to filming, which compromises some movements such as making objects heavy. It also compromises the ideas of liveness-deadness as it's not seen in the 1st person, which makes it much more difficult to capture.

Here are two more examples of work, they are in chonological order, I chose to represent the videos this way for my own benefit, as I could check in and view my own progress.

inanimate sounds work-

Here are a selection of sounds that I came up with when I first started to play around with inanimate sounds. Upon recieving feedback I noticed that while representing mystery well, they were missing human aspects, so I recided to re-record some. These are attached below.
